Super Bowl Champion, Pro Bowler and Pittsburgh Steeler Alan Faneca to Host Sixth Annual 'Bid for Hope' Auction

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 23 The sixth annual "Bid for Hope"charity auction, hosted by Pittsburgh Steeler Alan Faneca and his wife Julie,will be held on Monday, October 29 from 7 - 11 p.m. at the Jerome BettisGrille 36 on the North Shore. Faneca and many of his invited teammates willstart the evening off with an autograph session from 7-8 p.m. Throughout therest of the evening a silent and live auction of sports memorabilia will takeplace. Local sportscaster Bob Pompeani will serve as special guestauctioneer. All proceeds will benefit A Glimmer of Hope, a Pittsburgh-basednon-profit organization that supports breast cancer research.

The $200 per person ticket includes cocktails, hors 'd oeuvres and valetparking. In addition, every attendee will receive a specially designed giftbag including a white-panel football autographed by Faneca, and a special #66cap. One-of-a-kind auction items include autographed Steelers' jerseys andother team items, as well as other sports items and memorabilia. Glimmer of Hope has been supporting breast cancer research studies atMagee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA for several years. Dr. PantiniSukumvanich, a specialized surgeon and gynecologic oncologist specializing inthe treatment of gynecologic and breast cancers is currently conducting apilot study aimed at determining potential markers for increase risk of breastcancer in young (pre-menopausal) women. Sukumvanich said the long-term goalof the study is to prevent breast cancer by identifying the markers andintervening clinically using nutritional and dietary supplements. He ishoping to have results in a year.

According to Diana Napper, president of the Glimmer of Hope Foundation,"We are particularly interested in funding studies on cancer in younger women,making the Magee-Womens Research Institute a natural choice for our support."
