VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Sept. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Sunshine Coast Health Centre, one of the top drug rehab

programs in British Columbia serving people from throughout the Province from Powell River to Vancouver to Victoria, is proud to announce a two-part post to its blog on the topic of addiction pitfalls. Clients in Canada come to Sunshine Coast for its innovative "non 12 step" methodology to deal with drugs, alcohol, and even trauma issues.

"The uniqueness of our non 12 step methodology gives us an important voice in Canada about addiction," explained Casey Jordan, Chief Marketing Officer. "This two-part blog post explains in layperson's language some of the points about how addiction might be best understood and, thus, treated."

PITFALLS IN UNDERSTANDING ADDICTION

The blog post explains some of the common pitfalls in understanding and treating addiction. Here are some examples from the post:

1) Thinking substances are the cause of addiction. Despite decades of definitive research and evidence, the common misconception about addiction is that it is caused by a substance.

2) Believing abstinence will solve everything. Many people going into recovery, as well as their families, believe that abstinence will solve everything, but unfortunately, it doesn't. For the person giving up the substance or behaviour, things can become even more difficult for a time, while they adjust to dealing with life without relying on whatever it is they used.

3) Confusing self concern with selfishness. One of the things that is important to discern in life, and early recovery in particular, is the difference between selfishness and self-concern. One of the big stereotypes about so-called 'addicts' is that they are selfish.

These are just a few of the points made in the post. Interested persons can check out the post at https://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/2018/06/pitfalls-to-avoid-part-1/.
