The petition calls for the immediate recall of defective products and stricter regulatory policies to ensure safer products in the future.
The petition was filed on May 4, 2011 in response to claims that Bed Handles, Inc. has produced several products that have led to multiple fatalities. "Data previously provided to the FDA demonstrates that these devices can turn a bed into a death trap for patients who are physically weak or have physical or mental impairments," said Dr. Michael Carome, deputy director of Public Citizens' Health Research Group.
