Prior to automating the process of charge capture, hospitalists found themselves relying on pen-and-paper to document patient encounters for reimbursement. A desire to fully digitize this workflow for better timeliness, faster payment and a more efficient business office is what led the team to evaluate MedAptus. MedAptus' track record of success with seamless EMR interoperability, an approach proven to yield enthusiastic provider adoption, was key to the hospital's decision to engage with the company.

The South Shore hospitalist team is live on MedAptus for care delivered in the hospital's inpatient, observation and ER units. The interoperability between MedAptus and MEDITECH makes it fast and easy for providers to submit charges, leveraging a single sign-on approach and preserved patient context between systems. Later this year the group will further benefit from MedAptus' unparalleled data integration capabilities when the patient problem list feeds diagnosis codes to the Pro solution, further reducing administrative work for the hospitalist providers.

"As I know too well, hospitalists are extremely busy, typically working 12-hour shifts and managing upwards of 15 patients at a time so any technology aimed at our specialty must be highly intuitive and actually leverage existing systems. Many customers have told us that our EMR and EHR interoperability has been game changing in terms of gaining rapid physician buy-in so we feel a strong sense of satisfaction that we can deliver this kind of value to hospitals such as South Shore," said Ryan Secan, MD MPH, MedAptus chief medical officer. "And any time we add to our local customer base and can take a short drive to see our technology all in action, that's an added bonus for our team."
