"Dry eye, evaporation and refractive eye surgery," says radio host Sharon Kleyne, "are misunderstood. Too few people realize that dry eye caused by water evaporation is out of control and can lead to blindness, which is also out of control worldwide."

Jacqueline Deneen Griffiths, M.D., agrees on Kleyne's internationally syndicated radio program The Sharon Kleyne Hour Water Life Science®/Nature's Pharma®, The Power of Water® & Your Health sponsored by Nature's Tears® EyeMist® on VoiceAmerica and produced by Rose Hong, founder and director of Global Dragon TV in Washington, D.C. that people must pay attention to dry eye and learn more about it and refractive eye surgery. She also agrees with dry eye researcher Kleyne that people need drink a lot of pure water daily to supplement the eyes and body and replenish water lost to the natural process of evaporation.

Health Olympics inventor and dry eye pioneer Kleyne asks Dr. Griffiths to take dry eye seriously and wonders what she thinks can be done to educate parents of new babies about water evaporation, dry eye, refractive eye surgery and other ocular issues. "Parents need to monitor their use of computers and other devices," says Griffiths. "They also need to pay attention to lighting in rooms where the baby spends time. An infant can develop a lazy eye if one eye is exposed to more light than the other. This is a serious issue because some cases of lazy eye can be reversed if caught early, but it's impossible to do so after the age of ten." Griffiths also cautions against allowing an infant or young child to sit too long in front of a television.

Dry eye opponent Kleyne also asks about dry eye and the health of the eye at birth. "The health of the eye at birth is pretty good unless there are problems like cataracts or tumors," says Griffiths. "Dry eye complaints sometimes occur in infants, but it generally affects people as they grow older."

Undeterred, Kleyne is diligent in asking about education efforts of doctors. "Are doctors involving the insurance companies in education plans about dry eye prevention and dry eye relief?" asks Kleyne. "Insurance companies should be pounding the pavement of the Health Olympics to get people better educated about dry eye and restoring dry eyes to health."

"We do educate patients individually," Griffiths explains. "Also, the American Academy of Ophthalmology has a website (https://www.aao.org), Twitter handle and instagram and gets out educational material to millions on a daily basis."

Kleyne probes further. "Are you educating patients about the importance of nutrition? Are you reminding patients of the importance of drinking full glasses of pure water every day?"

Griffiths agrees with Kleyne that nutrition and drinking pure water are essential to solving over-evaporation issues and soothing dry eye symptoms. "Carrots are important in a healthy diet," says Griffiths, "because they are rich in vitamin A, which helps the eyes produce tears."

Finally, Kleyne asks about Lasik surgery and its propensity for triggering dry eye.

Griffiths, Medical Director of Newview® Eye Center and ophthalmology section chief of Reston Hospital Department of Surgery in Virginia has been in private practice since 1994 and loves performing eye surgery. "It's a happy field," says Griffiths. "You can improve peoples' lives through vision correction. We see dry eye after any kind of eye surgery," Griffiths continues. "It's really impossible to predict who will suffer dry eye after Lasik surgery. What we do know is that millions and millions of people have undergone Lasik surgery worldwide and the satisfaction rate is an impressive 96 percent. Therefore," Griffiths concludes, "deciding not to have Lasik surgery because it might trigger dry eye is like deciding to stay indoors because you might be struck by lightning."

Still, Kleyne points out that using Nature's Tears® EyeMist® before and after refractive eye surgery (Lasik and cataract, eye drops and contact lenses) or any kind of ocular procedure supplements the eye's tear film and provides long-lasting relief from the symptoms of dry eye.

In fact, thousands of physicians and millions of patients around the world have praised the Dry Eye Solution® Nature's Tears® EyeMist® for dry eye from Bio Logic Aqua® Research Water Life Science®.
