its existing systems with new packaged solutions and with the Connecting for Health programme. The implementation of the integration software will enable the hospital to sustain full and secure Electronic Patient Records. Patients will remain safe in the knowledge that clinicians have access to all the information they need in an efficient and timely manner. This will ensure that doctors nurses and other authorised users continue to make the best and most informed decisions in the provision of care. The hospital carried out a proof-of-concept before selecting Ensemble so has already demonstrated that the technology provides strong benefits and can be deployed in an extremely rapid timeframe. This rapid development time was a key factor in the selection of Ensemble as the hospital plans to have its first new systems up and running within two months. For example the proof-of-concept showed that with Ensemble complex interfaces can be built ready to test within one week. Royal Marsden ICT staff estimate that by using Ensemble they will cut overall interface development time by up to 50% providing a significant productivity boost. All aspects of Ensemble systems management and monitoring are provided via a single Web-based utility. This gives Royal Marsden staff much greater control over the management of the integration environment including powerful real-time monitoring of all messaging activity. With an increased number of interfaced systems this will allow Royal Marsden staff to react quickly to any issues. “A key factor that helped InterSystems win the business was its proven track record in healthcare” said Jon Reed Director of ICT at The Royal Marsden. “In addition the cost-effectiveness of the software and the business benefits it provides were also important criteria.” “We are delighted that The Royal Marsden Hospital selected Ensemble to integrate its systems” added Duncan Allen sales manager at InterSystems. “The hospital has developed its own Electronic Health Record over a number of years which has resulted in clinicians being able to operate in a near paperless manner.”
