Thursday, November 29th at 6pm Caduceus Medical Group will host at TLC (The Life Center) home to Caduceus 4 Kids, Caduceus 4 Kids Urgent Care, and Caduceus for Women a presentation led by Scott Hogate, father of 20 year old Kevin Hogate from Orange CA., that experienced sudden cardiac arrest and had no pre-existing conditions.

In the wake of this tragedy the Hogate family is committed to an awareness campaign so other parents are adequately prepared and have established a relationship with a family physician before leaving for college, encourage pediatric EKG testing for all high school students prior to participation in sports, as well as developed an advanced directive and the importance of sharing emergency contact information. The mayor of Orange, CA. also was inspired by their story and has established The Kevin Hogate Volunteer Award and Scholarship facilitated through the Orange Home Grown Foundation to honor the legacy of their son. The Hogate family has received local and regional coverage in the OC Register https://bit.ly/2pziGKe and NBC LA Channel 4 https://bit.ly/2qYweje https://bit.ly/2Tsr6Rc.

Alarming increases in the number of sudden cardiac death in young athletes several years ago had prompted Caduceus Medical Group to offer patients at its pediatric office, Caduceus 4 Kids, complimentary EKG testing. This service is offered to coincide with the increased demand for physicals in preparation for school sports.

Routine EKG testing has been controversial due to the additional cost, often creating an additional financial burden for families that have seen co-pays and deductibles increase with the implementation of the ACA in 2014. Caduceus is committed to continue its pledge as one of the trendsetters in the medical field, putting "patients before profits" and ultimately enhancing the overall patient experience. This decision will continue to enhance patient care by expanding its existing complimentary concierge services, thereby improving medical outcomes for patients.

Caduceus Chief Medical Officer, Gregg DeNicola MD, adds, "If we can identify even one young patient with an otherwise unknown cardiac condition, thus preventing a serious or even life threatening outcome, then the implementation of this policy speaks for itself." Dr. DeNicola also shares that with early detection many of these outcomes could have been avoided.

Both existing patients and those new to Caduceus may take advantage of this complimentary service, available on the Yorba Linda campus at Caduceus 4 Kids in the Life Center, 18210 Yorba Linda Blvd. Ste. 404. No appointment is necessary, and EKG walk-ins are also welcome.

Caduceus Medical Group, is an Orange County CA primary care, ob-gyn, pediatrics, and specialty medical group, and has received extensive local and national news coverage for its unique approach to medical care, focusing on an effort to provide access to all through innovation and online complimentary concierge services and virtual visits.

As one of the only remaining locally owned and managed medical groups in Orange County, providing the ultimate patient experience is critical for the group to continue to grow and thrive in the communities served. Access to all is the cornerstone of its philosophy at Caduceus Medical Group.
