CHICAGO, Oct. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Opioid misuse and abuse has emerged as a major public health crisis. Improper

use of any opioid may result in serious side effects including overdose and death1. Physicians are in a key position to balance the benefits of the analgesics against the risks of adverse outcomes. It is also critical that the appropriate
prescribing practices and education is reinforced.

To that end, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R) has developed a highly interactive educational activity for prescribers who want to take a leadership role and advance their knowledge of proper extended-release (ER)/long-acting (LA) opioid analgesics opioid prescribing.

AAPM&R will offer the Interactive Arcade: REMS Playbook for Opioid Prescribing as an onsite activity during its 2016 annual conference, the Annual Assembly, October 20-23, 2016 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Arcade will offer a unique opportunity for ER/LA opioid prescribers to experience interactive education in an intimate setting.

This complimentary, hands-on educational experience will combine multimedia information areas with live theater presentations to teach prescribers how to safely prescribe ER/LA opioid analgesics. Each section of the Arcade reveals clues to help guide prescribers through an info-scavenger hunt type of learning experience. This Interactive Arcade is worth up to 3 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ and will be open throughout the event. Prescribers may participate in this live activity without registering for the entire event.

Registration is required, but access is complimentary. Visit www.aapmr.og/REMplaybook to learn more and access the companion website.

These educational activities are supported by an independent educational grant from the EL/RA Opioid Analgesic REMS Program Companies. Click here for a listing of the member companies. This activity is intended to be fully compliant with the ER/LA Opioid Analgesics REMS education requirements issued by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.
