With over 23 million Americans in recovery from alcohol and other drug addiction, the recovery community has become a vital part of efforts to turn the tide on the epidemic that claims 174 lives every day from drug overdoses in the United States.

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 3, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Faces & Voices of Recovery is launching the California Recovery Ambassador

Initiative to engage people who have survived alcohol and other addiction and are thriving in their recovery journey, as well as family members, friends and allies in the treatment community, to become part of the solution to the opioid epidemic. Recovery ambassadors are advocates for greater access to treatment and eliminating the stigma and discrimination faced by people impacted by addiction. Since 2001, Faces & Voices of Recovery, a national grassroots advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C., has been working to address the stigma that keeps many families from seeking help and demonstrate that long-term recovery is possible.

The California Recovery Ambassador Initiative kicks off on January 24, 2019 with a Recovery Ambassador workshop at 1:00 pm followed by a fundraising dinner and gala at 6:30 pm in Los Angeles. The featured speaker of the gala is Kristina Wandzilak, interventionist, author of, "The Lost Years: Surviving a Mother and Daughter's Worst Nightmare," and reality TV expert on TLC's Addicted- followed by a musical performance by singer, songwriter and activist, Elizabeth Edwards, and a performance by renowned recovery comedian Mark Lundholm. Money raised will go towards expanding the recovery advocacy movement in California.

These events, cohosted by C4 Recovery Solutions, are open to the public and will be held during the Evolutions conference at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel, 6101 West Century Boulevard, Los Angeles, California.
