BOULDER, Colo., Nov. 17 Parascript, LLC, the imageanalysis and pattern recognition technology provider, today announced therelease of AccuDetect 2.0, the next generation of its computer-aided detection(CAD) algorithms for mammography. Parascript AccuDetect 2.0 is even morerobust with improved performance and increased potential for loweringfalse-positive rates in detecting suspicious lesions on mammograms. Availablefor OEM customers interested in reducing false-positive rates of existing CADsystems, AccuDetect is intended to assist radiologists in the early detectionof breast cancer during film-based or digital mammography exams.

CAD systems are typically relied upon to identify and highlighthard-to-find features and anomalies on medical images that may be indicativeof cancer and bring them to the attention of radiologists. AccuDetect is anenabling technology that easily integrates with existing analog and digitalCAD systems to improve the accuracy of data interpretation. Its primaryobjective is to enable existing CAD systems to reduce false-positive readingsthrough the utilization of voting methodology in medical imaging.

Parascript AccuDetect 2.0 integrates several proprietary algorithms andsophisticated voting methods to achieve low false-positive rates whilemaintaining high sensitivity rates. The entire process of applying votingmethodology during image processing and analysis is best described as the workof a group of highly skilled experts. Each member has unique skills, expertise, and favored approaches. When they work together as a team, theareas of expertise complement each other, resulting in improved overallperformance. Comparing the results of multiple image-recognition processesenables the inherent faults of the procedure to be mitigated, resulting inreduced false-positive and false-negative rates.

"Our goal at Parascript is to help our partners create next generation CADsystems with false-positive rates approaching those of a second radiologist. The reduced false-positive rates can ultimately lead to a decrease in medicalcosts, emotional stress, follow-up examinations, and recalls for healthypatients that were suspected of having a cancer," said Yuri Prizemin, directorof product marketing for Parascript.
