A Full Day of Pain Management for the Main Street Practitioner on Saturday, May 4; mingle with faculty and attendees, learn and earn up to 6.0 AMA PRA Category 1 credits for $129

MONTCLAIR, N.J., April 9, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- PAINWeekEnd on May 4 at the Hilton

Raleigh North Hills, 3415 Wake Forest Road in North Carolina, will be a timely full day program providing busy clinicians and allied healthcare practitioners with 6.0 hours of relevant, practical instruction in the management of chronic pain.

In November of last year, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced a series of new tools to improve prescribers' and pharmacists' ability to identify patients at risk for opioid abuse and misuse. The state's Department of Health and Human Services has introduced a digital gateway that provides instant access to the NC Controlled Substance Reporting System, and has integrated this information with NarxCare, a tool that provides analytics and clinical resources for risk assessment and patient support. The Department has also introduced the North Carolina Opioid Action Plan, a multipronged initiative that encompasses prescription and illicit drug reduction, as well as improved community awareness and participation, increased access to naloxone, and expanding treatment and recovery-oriented systems of care. Going beyond prescribing guidelines is key to balancing response to the opioid crisis with the needs of patients in pain, a topic that will be explored at PAINWeekEnd Raleigh. Gary W. Jay, MD, FAAPM, is Clinical Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and a longtime member of the PAINWeek and PAINWeekEnd faculty. At PAINWeekEnd Raleigh, Dr. Jay will be presenting "Year of the Locusts: The Impact of the CDC Guidelines on Practitioners and Patients." He commented: "The guidelines issued by CDC, leaving much to be desired, have become the platform on which many states have built their responses to the public health problem of opioid misuse and abuse. I look forward to sharing some perspective, with the patients primarily in mind, on some of the significant unintended consequences of this regulatory, more than medical/clinical landscape, and how the prescribing clinician can positively react."

Other courses to be offered at PAINWeekEnd Raleigh include Neck and Upper Extremity Pain Syndromes; 3's Company: COX-2 Inhibitors, Medicinal Marijuana, and Opioid Prescribing; Precise Prescribing: Applying the Science of Pain to Treatment Decisions; Migraine and More; and Back Pain: It's All About the Diagnosis. Commercially supported activities—addressing a range of product, disease state, and medical information topics—will also be presented.
