MONTCLAIR, N.J., May 14, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- PAINWeekEnd on June 8 at the Westin

Galleria Dallas, 13340 Dallas Parkway in Texas, will be a timely program providing busy clinicians and allied healthcare practitioners with 6.0 hours of relevant, practical instruction in the management of chronic pain.

The Texas Medical Board requires all personnel who provide medical services to patients in a pain clinic setting to complete 10 hours of continuing medical education in pain management each year. The state has additionally sought to address the prescribing activity of all physicians in the arena of controlled substances, with revised prescription forms that become mandatory for use on June 1, and a deadline of September 1 for registration with PMP Aware™, the state's prescription drug monitoring program. [Please note: Practitioners are responsible for contacting their relevant state boards to see if PAINWeekEnd courses meet the necessary requirements for CME credits.] PAINWeekEnd will prepare attendees to comply with these and other stipulations, and to achieve better outcomes for their patients with pain. Course topics will explore the management of different pain syndromes, provide strategies for navigating the complex legal and regulatory landscape of pain practice, and convey the latest information on cutting edge topics in pain. At PAINWeekEnd Dallas, Alexandra McPherson, PharmD, MPH, will present Nonopioid Analgesics: Antidepressants, Adjuvant Therapies, and Muscle Relaxants. "Patients frequently opt to use a nonprescription analgesic to self-treat a painful complaint, yet often do not have all the facts, such as potential exclusions to self-treatment or how to select the best analgesic from a sea of countless options. In this session, we'll investigate the mechanism of action, indications, adverse effects, and precautions of analgesics, along with key patient counseling points when recommending a nonopioid prescription analgesic." Dr. McPherson will also present Rational Polypharmacy.

Other courses to be offered at PAINWeekEnd Dallas include Pain Pathways Made Simple; Embrace Changes and Prevent Overdose: A Basic Blueprint for Legal Risk Mitigation and Response; Neck and Upper Extremity Pain Syndromes; and Get Your Specimens in Order: Timely Use of Test Results.

Commercially supported activities—addressing a range of product, disease state, and medical information topics—will also be presented.
