Dr. Mealey, who is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, a former Director of the Board and co-editor and author of two textbooks in periodontics, informed the audience that, chronic inflammation is a key component of the initiation and progression of numerous systemic conditions. Expanding knowledge of the pathogenesis of oral inflammatory diseases, especially periodontal disease, has shed light on the intimate relationships between periodontal health and overall systemic health. "It is important for the entire dental team to understand these relationships. Most imperative, is the translation of information from the world of basic science and clinical research into the daily practice of dentistry." A clinically relevant discussion about the interrelationships between periodontal/peri-implant inflammation and commonly encountered systemic conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and pregnancy took place. All attendees left with valuable information and knowledge that will be implemented in their day-to-day clinical practice of educating patients.

The seminar was attended by over two hundred and fifty dental professionals at Burton Manor in Livonia, MI and was highly praised. Dr. Bhola, who is among the top faculty members at the Zimmer Biomet Institute (http://www.zimmerbiometdental.com), a state of the art training facility with locations all over the world stated, "API strives to elevate the knowledge and skills of its members through regular CE programs.
