LIVONIA, Mich., Sept. 17, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A seminar on the topic, 'The Oral-Systemic Connection in Daily Dental

Practice: Your Patients Are Asking About It; What Are You Telling Them?' was organized for dental professionals by Advanced Periodontics and Implantology (API), a premier clinical and education center in Michigan, spearheaded by Dr. Monish Bhola (DDS, MSD), a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, on September 14, 2018 in Livonia, Michigan. Dr. Monish Bhola, Director of API, stated, "API organized this CE seminar to address and help our referring doctors and their staff understand the connection between oral health and systemic diseases. We were honored to have Dr. Brian Mealey as our guest speaker to help our attendees recognize the relationship between periodontal disease and other systemic conditions, such as, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and pregnancy. Dr. Brian Mealey, DDS (Professor and Graduate Program Director in the Department of Periodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio) discussed various types of associations by which periodontal disease may be linked to these systemic conditions

Dr. Mealey, who is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, a former Director of the Board and co-editor and author of two textbooks in periodontics, informed the audience that, chronic inflammation is a key component of the initiation and progression of numerous systemic conditions. Expanding knowledge of the pathogenesis of oral inflammatory diseases, especially periodontal disease, has shed light on the intimate relationships between periodontal health and overall systemic health. "It is important for the entire dental team to understand these relationships. Most imperative, is the translation of information from the world of basic science and clinical research into the daily practice of dentistry." A clinically relevant discussion about the interrelationships between periodontal/peri-implant inflammation and commonly encountered systemic conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and pregnancy took place. All attendees left with valuable information and knowledge that will be implemented in their day-to-day clinical practice of educating patients.

The seminar was attended by over two hundred and fifty dental professionals at Burton Manor in Livonia, MI and was highly praised. Dr. Bhola, who is among the top faculty members at the Zimmer Biomet Institute (http://www.zimmerbiometdental.com), a state of the art training facility with locations all over the world stated, "API strives to elevate the knowledge and skills of its members through regular CE programs. In 2018, it has offered more than twenty hours of CE Lectures in periodontics, dental implants, restorative dentistry and oral pathology and medicine, apart from hands-on courses (on site and off site).
