Nursing.org Announces Scholarship Winners for 2018 School Year

Scholarships awarded to outstanding nursing students for academic achievement and passion for nursing.

HOUSTON, March 13, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Nursing.org, a college planning website that helps nursing students find, finance, and enroll in nursing quality programs, today announced the winners of three scholarship awards for the 2018 school year. Each scholarship is offered exclusively to visitors at Nursing.org and applicants are carefully reviewed by the site's staff. All applicants must be U.S. citizens attending an accredited U.S. college or university and be in good academic standing to be considered. They are required to submit a 1,000-word essay related to the scholarship's topic, which is considered closely in the selection process. The winner of the Bridging Your Career: The RN to BSN Scholarship is Jessica Wallinski. This $500 prize is reserved for a registered nurse enrolled in an RN to BSN program, and is awarded to the nurse who best represents the Institute of Medicine's model for a BSN-educated professional who recognizes how increased education leads to improved patient outcomes. Jessica plans on earning a MSN/MBA dual degree and wants to pursue an executive leadership role in nursing.

Nursing.org's Nurses First Scholarship winner is Thelma Jerome. This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to an outstanding nursing student who demonstrates a dedication to nursing's evolving role in the healthcare system, the drive to make nursing a lifelong career, and a commitment to outstanding patient care. "As a woman who is sensitive to the needs of those who come from underprivileged backgrounds, I am confident that I can empower those to cope with lifetime health challenges," Jerome said.

William Ahern is the winner of the Breaking Barriers: Scholarship for Men in Nursing. This $500 scholarship is awarded to a male nursing student who exhibits outstanding character, confidence, and ability in nursing. Ahern worked at Emory Healthcare for two-and-a-half years in health administration before pursuing his dream of becoming a nurse.

"This is one of the most talented bunch of applicants we've ever received, and these winners are the best of the best," said director Ryan Michaels. "All three recipients have a heart to help those in need."
