Dr. Antonio A.F. De Salles, professor of neurosurgery at the University ofCalifornia at Los Angeles David Geffen School of Medicine, chaired and hostedthe meeting together with his fellow physicians Dr. Michael Selch and Dr.Nzhde Agazaryan. The meeting provided a venue for 53 scientific presentationstogether with intensive training and discussion among Novalis Circle members.

"Novalis Circle offers clinicians a high powered network that promotescommunication, clinical collaboration, development of new ideas and treatmenttechniques, and joint scientific research to improve results achieved withradiosurgery," said Dr. De Salles, who was the first physician in the world touse the Novalis Shaped Beam Surgery system in 1998.

Discussions focused heavily on frameless stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS)and the benefits of the Novalis Tx platform. Frameless SRS involves thecreation of a non-invasive facemask cast from the patient's face and head tostabilize the patient and prevent movement during treatments. Framelesspatient positioning using Image-Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT) makes treatmentfaster without compromising the high precision.
