Northern Westchester Hospital names new chief nursing officer

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y., Jan. 8, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Catherine Manley-Cullen, MS, RN, NEA-BC, an accomplished health care leader with more than three decades of experience, has been named chief nursing officer at Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH).

Manley-Cullen brings NWH a broad range of experience in both academic and multi-specialty health care facilities. She specializes in clinical operations, patient care services, compliance and regulatory affairs, clinical management, performance improvement, and operational redesign. At NWH, she will support the continued development of high quality clinical services and oversee the nursing and professional care teams as well as the hospital's Magnet designation program. She will collaborate with the Senior Leadership team to enhance and implement new programs. Manley-Cullen will continue to build on the already outstanding quality metrics at NWH with a focus on efficiencies that improve the overall patient & family experience.

Before joining NWH, Manley-Cullen was vice president patient care services/chief nursing officer NYU Langone Health-Brooklyn, leading daily clinical operations within the nursing departments. During her tenure at NYU Langone, Ms. Manley-Cullen helped plan and open the state-of-the-art Ronald O. Perelman Emergency Department, as well as the Cobble Hill Emergency Department in Brooklyn. She also implemented a behavioral health program in the emergency department that led to improved care and outcomes, and assisted in the development of an observation unit, a new care model that has reduced unnecessary admissions.

Ms. Manley-Cullen has widely presented on Care Transitions, specifically the development and implementation of a robust Emergency Department Follow-Up Program, Emergency Management Preparedness and quality and patient- experience initiatives. Her work in Nursing Sensitive Indicators led to an 85% reduction rate in catheter associated urinary tract infections, and a 65% decrease in central line associated blood stream infections. She also introduced SAFE programs across all system campuses to treat and support survivors of sexual assault. Her leadership contributed to the achievement of ACS Trauma certification and Joint Commission certifications in comprehensive stroke, stroke rehab, palliative care, and perinatal care.

Prior experience also includes the role of associate director at Mount Sinai's Recanati/Miller Transplant Institute and a clinical manager at LiveOn New York. The gift of life through organ donation is one of her many passions. She also served as senior vice president and chief operating officer at Westchester Medical Center, where she held the additional roles of corporate compliance officer and assistant vice president of administration.

Manley-Cullen received a certificate for senior executives from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government; a Master of Science degree from Pace University where she had a Michaelian Scholarship for Graduate Studies and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the College of New Rochelle.

Manley-Cullen resides in Pleasantville, NY with her husband John, and has two daughters, Caitlin and Emily. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives; Healthcare Leaders of New York; the American Nurses Association; the American Organization for Nursing Leadership; the Emergency Nurses Association; Sigma Theta Tau; and serves on the Advisory Board of Pace University.
