THE SAMFUND AND TRIAGE CANCER LAUNCH FINANCES 101: A TOOLKIT FOR YOUNG ADULTS WITH CANCER

BOSTON and LOS ANGELES, Nov. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Samfund, a nonprofit organization in the U.S. dedicated to helping young adults who are struggling financially because of cancer, and Triage Cancer, a national nonprofit organization that provides education and resources on the entire continuum of cancer survivorship issues, announce the launch of Finances 101: A Toolkit for Young Adults with Cancer, an online tool that guides young adults to the information they need to make important financial decisions in the wake of a cancer diagnosis.

"Whether at the time of diagnosis, in the midst of treatment, or at any point in recovery, young adults can use the Toolkit to find information that is most relevant to them," said Samantha Watson, CEO of The Samfund. "By helping them make well-informed financial decisions early on, they can assess their ability to pay for treatment and minimize the financial toxicity of their illness. This can empower them to see their doctors when they need to, instead of skipping appointments due to a lack of funds."

With the start of the 2017 Health Insurance Marketplace Open Enrollment, today, the first topic released in the Toolkit is Health Insurance. The Toolkit will release information on additional topics including disability insurance, employment issues, and managing finances.

"Our goal for the first module of the Toolkit is to provide young adults with key information about their health insurance options as well as how to effectively navigate their health insurance coverage," said Joanna Morales, CEO of Triage Cancer. "This tool doesn't just provide information, but helps guide young adults to targeted options specific to their situation. Having the right health insurance coverage can help reduce the out of pocket medical costs that can be financially devastating."

The Samfund is the first and largest nonprofit organization in the country to help young adults recover from the devastating financial impact of cancer treatment. Through direct financial assistance and free online support and education, we help young adults move forward with their lives after cancer. For more information, visit www.TheSamfund.org.

Triage Cancer is a national, nonprofit organization providing information and resources on cancer survivorship issues to patients, survivors, caregivers, advocates, and healthcare professionals, through educational events, an international Speakers Bureau, and online educational materials and resources.
