COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- A group of local activists have completed a month-long community service project supporting Maryhaven's adolescent units. The team of 53 students from Next Level Trainings' 16th leadership class raised over $180,000, collected 2,000 tangible goods and tallied over 5,000 volunteer hours during a month-long fundraising campaign for Maryhaven. This non-profit helps individuals and families lead healthy lives free from addiction and mental illness by providing education, treatment, and support.

In addition to the fundraising and collection of goods, the team dedicated a full day at the Columbus Maryhaven center to create a more inviting and comfortable environment by painting murals on the walls, organizing storage areas, laying new ceiling tiles, and making blankets for the teens.

MEDIA KIT: Next Level Trainings Community Service Project for Maryhaven

For six decades, Maryhaven has served adolescents and adults across the state. Today, with drug abuse on the rise, demand for the organization's services are increasing and few resources remain for furnishings and repair.

To improve the center's environment and create a safer, home-like space for recovery, this volunteer team's fundraising efforts will be used for these facility renovations. The leadership team presented a giant check to Maryhaven last week. Maryhaven acknowledged the leadership team in their 2018 Restoring Lives Breakfast celebrating their 60th year of service. Kathy McKenzie, a Next Level graduate, got the opportunity to speak at the breakfast and inspire others to follow their lead and remind those attending that a significant impact can be made by anyone if we work together toward a cause.

"I can speak for all of us at Maryhaven: we are eternally thankful to the Next Level Trainings team for their enthusiasm, passion, and tenacity during the past few weeks," said Nanon Morrison, VP of Development and Marketing. "Their fundraising efforts and dedication to improve the facility at Maryhaven's adolescent center was breathtaking. This project will have a lasting impact on the teens in this community and their legacy will last for years to come."

Maryhaven's mission is to help individuals and families lead healthy lives free from addiction and mental illness by providing education, treatment and support.
