Staffing challenges and payment changes will influence skilled nursing decisions this year

CHICAGO, Feb. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Skilled Nursing News, an Aging Media Network publication, is pleased to announce the results of its annual outlook survey on the state of the skilled nursing market.

The survey gathers the opinions of more than 360 industry professionals including owners, executive leadership, managers and staff, polled about their skilled nursing industry outlook for 2020.

The report on the survey results includes highlights on where industry stakeholders foresee challenges in the year ahead, how they are responding and reacting to the Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM), how they see skilled nursing occupancy changing, and more.

In summary, respondents indicated:

  • Private buyers are expected to take control of the acquisitions market in 2020
  • Despite rising popularity of I-SNPs, more operators see adding specialty services as a key growth strategy
  • PDPM concerns are dwindling, even though the payment model will have a strong influence on operations in the coming year
"Based on our regular conversations with skilled nursing industry insiders, we expected to see staffing challenges and PDPM highlighted in this year's survey responses. We were very encouraged to see more specifically that concerns over PDPM are falling significantly, and operators are making changes in an effort to not only adapt, but to actually grow under the new model," said Alex Spanko, editor of Skilled Nursing News.

The full survey results are available here.
