SPRINGFIELD, N.J., July 25, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- New Jersey Bariatric Center is pleased to announce its surgeons have partnered with Atlantic Health System's accountable care organization (ACO), according to Ajay Goyal, MD, FACS, founder and medical director of New Jersey Bariatric Center. "We are excited about this latest venture to improve access to care for patients who are seeking weight loss services, including surgical weight loss such as gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy procedures," said Goyal, who is also Director of Bariatric Surgery at Atlantic Health's Overlook Medical Center in Summit, N.J. "ACOs were formed to enhance patient outcomes and I am confident that this partnership will help qualified candidates gain the proper referrals for bariatric procedures, which have the ability to improve or resolve multiple health conditions with just one surgery."

The goal of the Atlantic ACO is to provide patients with health education, improved access to health care and enhanced care delivery through improved coordination and individual care. When a patient's care requires multiple specialties to achieve optimal health, the ACO helps with the process by designing an efficient care plan.

Patients who access New Jersey Bariatric Center's service through the ACO will have a team of medical and surgical weight loss experts at their disposal to formulate a clinical plan to address obesity. The team includes 5 fellowship-trained laparoscopic bariatric and general surgeons and registered dietitians, psychologists and a physician assistant, all of whom specialize in the treatment of obesity. In addition to resulting in significant weight loss, researchers have found that bariatric surgery improves or resolves more than 40 obesity-related diseases or conditions, including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, obstructive sleep apnea and certain cancers.
