NAPLES, Fla., April 21 AgingCare.com, an online community for people taking care of their elderly parents, has added a new feature to its website. The "Custom Care Guide" is a collection of articles and information related to a caregiver's individual care situation.

The free Custom Care Guide, delivered via email, provides caregivers information about diseases and conditions their parents suffer from. For example, if an elderly parent has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, the caregiver can request a Custom Care Guide that contains information about treatments, special needs, behaviors and caregiving advice related to Alzheimer's disease.

"The majority of caregivers are suddenly thrust into the role, with no preparation and no guidance. They're doing it for the first time. They feel overwhelmed, afraid, isolated and alone," says Joe Buckheit, Publisher of AgingCare.com. "Fear of the unknown creates turmoil and stress. The Custom Care Guide arms caregivers with information and knowledge about the disease. They feel more prepared to take control of the situation and make informed decisions about their loved one's care."

It takes under a minute to request the Care Guide. The caregiver provides information - who the caregiver is taking care of, what disease their loved one has and where the elder lives (with them, at home, in a nursing home). The Custom Care Guide is delivered to the caregiver's inbox. They can also access their Guide online anytime.

The Custom Care Guide is one of many tools on AgingCare.com. The website has thousands of articles, answers from elder care experts, a directory of local senior housing and home care providers, information about senior care products and an active community of online discussions where caregivers connect with each other.

"Most of us don't plan for a parent's old age or decline in health," Buckheit says. "Other caregivers who understand how tough caregiving is can provide advice and help each other make it through the tough times. Sometimes strength comes from knowing that there are others just like you. That's what AgingCare.com is all about: caregivers sharing real experiences, giving each other tips and motivation, and sharing trials and tribulations."
