Born in Ireland, Dr. Stanley M. Lee attended Trinity College in Dublin, where he studied biochemistry as an undergraduate and later received his medical degree. Following graduation from medical school, he moved to the United States, where he completed his internship at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA and his residency at the University of Miami. After completing his residency and an adult nephrology fellowship, Dr. Lee moved to Minnesota, where he fulfilled a pediatric nephrology fellowship, then joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Lee then accepted an associate professorship at the University of Arizona and relocated his family to Tucson, where they spent 11 years before making Nashville their home.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Lee has conducted laboratory research and authored or co-authored over 100 scholarly contributions in manuscripts, abstracts, textbooks and presentations. He has served renal patients in the middle Tennessee area as a practicing nephrologist at St. Thomas West Hospital, the St. Thomas Transplant program, and the pediatric nephrology program at Vanderbilt Medical Center. As a legacy partner, Dr. Lee has practiced at Nephrology Associates for over thirty years, and also serves as an interventionalist at Vascular Access Associates.
Dr. Lee and his wife Esther share four children and four granddaughters, with a grandson due before the end of the year. When time allows, Dr. Lee enjoys golfing, reading, photography and listening to classical music. He is also well known for his "doodling" and has created some very artistic drawings during meetings and presentations.
A special presentation honoring Dr. Lee will take place at the annual TKF Spring Gala in March. All of us at Nephrology Associates are proud to participate in this well-deserved celebration of Dr. Lee's extraordinary career.
