HOUSTON, Sept. 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --- You are on a true mission of good versus evil. But this time, it's personal. On Saturday, September 6, The John P. McGovern Museum of Health & Medical Science, also known as The Health Museum, will premiere its second permanent addition in three months, since the museum's opening in 1996, The McGovern 4D Theater. The opening of the McGovern 4D Theater will also mark the introduction of theater technology of this level to Houston.

The theater will feature science in 4D. A 4D science experience is a 3D film, complete with cool 3D glasses and environmental effects. Expedition 3D: The Cell will be the first film featured in the McGovern Theater. Expedition 3D: The Cell is an animated 11-minute journey into the human body where viewers push through the cell wall with the expedition team as they take a closer look at how cells fight disease.

Along with the 3D effects of the film, guests will also experience gusts of wind, mist, fog and light strobes as the expedition team searches for the quintessential 'bad guys' in the human cell. Other 4D environmental effects that are possible in the theater include thunder, lightning and scents.

Phil Lindsey, Vice President of Exhibits and Business Development, a nationally renowned science and entertainment exhibits expert and veteran of such institutions as Disney, Legoland and The Franklin Institute, along with his team, worked at lightning speeds to transform the McGovern Theater into the high-tech facility in 30 days.

"The Theater was closed the first week in August and we will open to the public on September 6. The theater was transformed from a standard theater to a fully digital 3D, 5.1 surround sound world complete with 22-foot screen seating for 120 guests. This theater experience will literally be unlike anything any other museum or attraction in Houston can offer."

Jon Iszard, the Museum's president and CEO, added that this theater experience brings a new dimension to science education. "Being able to offer science in 4D speaks directly to the tech-savvy youth of today as well as giving parents, educators and museum-goers an opportunity to encounter science and health in both an educational and entertaining way. And in the McGovern 4D Theater, you not only learn about science and health, you become a part of it. And as the only interactive science center in the country with a focus on the health and life sciences, it is only fitting that we also lead the way in incorporating high-end technology into the museum experience."

Admission to the theater will be included in the Museum's general admission and is free to its members. Development of The Health Museum and its programs has resulted in a rapidly growing audience, and this latest addition is yet another milestone in the long-term strategic plan of the Museum.

The McGovern Theater was generously underwritten by the John P. McGovern Foundation.
