MURRIETA, Calif., August 16, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Murrieta Genomics, LLC, the Southern
"This marks an important development for our company," stated Brandon Young, one of the four founders and the CTO of Murrieta Genomics. "We are extremely happy to be moving into our newly constructed genomic sequencing laboratory. We will continue to perform sequencing services for our research clients, and now we can begin bringing new researchers and incubator companies into the facility."
While healthcare is the primary focus of Murrieta Genomics, the company also welcomes researchers and entrepreneurs in the consumer products, agriculture, forensics, and veterinary fields.
"Genomic research holds the key to so many dynamic new business models," said John Powers, a founder and President of the company. "One of the main challenges for new genomic-based companies is access to the technology and know-how. We are one of the very few facilities in the country that can offer this, and we believe that through the companies that come out of our incubator we will have a significant impact in a number of industries."
"The City of Murrieta is also bringing dedicated clinical trial research to this area by hosting Alliance Research Centers of Laguna Hills in the Innovation Center," said Deepankar Roy, principal at Murrieta Genomics and the company's Chief Science Officer. "This focus on emerging healthcare technologies and advanced technical applications will position the City as a regional leader in healthcare research and development."
Murrieta Genomics has one incubator company in place already. EpigeneticsRx offers a comprehensive set of tools allowing physicians and their patients to have everything they need in one place for precise, personalized, preventative healthcare. The company uses genomic sequencing to create a personalized nutrition and lifestyle treatment plan for consumers, partnering with doctors interested in a holistic, integrative approach to health.
There are several healthcare technology companies currently in the Innovation Center, including GattaCo that has developed a patented technology that simplifies the biological sample collection and processing steps used to generate lab quality data. GattaCo's flagship product, the Sipon, is a self-contained, fully-automatic and disposable centrifuge replacement tool that allows blood-based diagnostics to be moved out of a lab and run anywhere.
Sandhill Crane Diagnostics, another company at the Center, is dedicated to bringing equitable healthcare to global rural and other low-resource communities. Their mission is to develop affordable on-site medical diagnostic testing and telemedicine products for use in these healthcare settings.
Lit Central is a pending addition to the Center and has spent a decade developing a software platform that allows healthcare providers to dive deep into the overall healthcare experience, while providing a transparent "grade" for the public. This is one of the key pieces of information future patients desire before entrusting their lives to healthcare providers outside their immediate network of care.
The focus on innovation in healthcare is shared by local healthcare organizations. An ongoing city-hosted quarterly meeting of healthcare providers, including Loma Linda University, Southwest Healthcare System, Kaiser Permanente, University of California, Rady Children's Hospital, Riverside County Physician Association, Inland Health Professionals Coalition and others introduces new companies and innovations to this community.
The Murrieta Innovation Center has been established for several years and while it has begun to narrow its focus to healthcare, it is dedicated to helping entrepreneurs in any industry. The city-owned building hosts many resource providers, including three veterans' groups, SCORE, EPIC Small Business Development Center, The YES Place for young entrepreneurs, 5D Women, InSoCal CONNECT and several local professionals who provide mentorship and guidance to entrepreneurs.
"It has taken some time for us to define the focus and build momentum to this milestone," said Jay Goth, the fourth founder of Murrieta Genomics. "With advanced next generation sequencing technologies, a dedicated clinical trial research unit, the support of the local educational and healthcare partners, and of course the incredible backing from the City of Murrieta, we are poised to 'put a dent in the universe,' as Steve Jobs so eloquently put it."
