The act, approved by overwhelming bipartisan majorities in Congress, willreverse a 10.6 percent cut in Medicare payments to physicians that took effecton July 1, enabling physicians to continue caring for patients covered byMedicare. Without passage, many physicians would have been forced to choosebetween assuring the viability of their practice, which includes paying staffand maintaining equipment, and continuing to care for seniors covered byMedicare and military families covered by TRICARE.
