FALMOUTH, Mass., June 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- In December 2015, Kevin M. Lynch founded The Quell Foundation, Inc. with an aim to normalize the conversation about a mental health diagnosis. Since its founding, The Quell Foundation has impacted a countless number of lives across the country including those suffering from a mental illness, family members, practitioners, educators, veterans and advocates, by disbursing over $250,000 in scholarships.

The Foundation awards scholarships to students with a diagnosed mental health illness who are pursuing a post-secondary education, students who have suffered the loss of a parent or caregiver to suicide, and students who will pursue a career in the mental health field. "These scholarships not only encourage the furthering of education to students living with a mental illness," said Lynch, "but they are increasing the talent pipeline to create the next generation of mental health workers."

Tanya Griffiths of Carlsbad, CA learned about The Quell Foundation after hearing Mr. Lynch speak at The White House as part of the National Council for Behavioral Health Making Health Care Better Series. "As a family having experienced the devastation and isolation of mental illness first hand, we wanted to focus our energy and resources toward helping others who suffer," says Ms. Griffiths. "The Quell Foundation has not only provided the opportunity to do this very important work, but they have made us feel a part of an amazing community of people. We no longer feel alone and helpless but connected and empowered."

The Quell Foundation has also entered partnership agreements with several mental health degree programs including Pennsylvania State University's psychiatric nurse practitioner program, Nova Southeastern University's Equine Therapy program, Becker College's Mental Health Counseling program, and the University of Minnesota's Integrated Behavioral Health and Addictions Counseling (IBH/AC) program.

A majority of The Quell Foundation's endowment is raised at its Masquerade Ball, an event designed to figuratively lift the mask and remove the stigma of mental health illness. Held annually in November, 100% of the proceeds raised at the Ball support the programs and activities sponsored by The Foundation. The first Ball held in 2016 raised over $400,000. This year, the Masquerade Ball will be held in Newport, Rhode Island on November 18.
