Michael Clarke appeared in a Facebook Livechat session on Wednesday, 22nd of March, at JW Marriott, Delhi with prominent celebrity nutrition expert, Nmami Agarwal of Nmami Life to focus on sports nutrition.
In the chat, the former Australian Cricket captain stressed heavily on eating freshly cooked food and diet education for youngsters and parents to avoid obesity and eating disorders. "In Australia, everybody's in a rush and so they go for takeaways," shared Michael Clarke.
Expressing his love for Indian food, Clarke named 'Naan' as his favourite Indian food and told how he likes the feeling of fullness after a scrumptious Indian meal. In between, he gets candid, "Oh, I still hate peas."
Returning to the importance of right nutrition for an athlete, Clarke explained, "It (body) is like a car. If you put the best petrol inside your system, your car gets the best results."
During the chat, the world-class cricketer shared how his diet changed from three huge meals a day to five balanced meals when he started his career. He emphasised deeply on personalised nutrition and not falling into the trap of fad diets.
"Food is not about fats and calories. It's about maximising nutrition," agreed the duo on eating everything in moderation.
On behalf of the sports fraternity and those who travel frequently, Clarke sought advice from the dietitian about the right type of food for long flights and hotel stays. "Go for fresh fruits and light beverages and never eat fully. Always leave room for local cuisines," advised Ms. Agarwal.
Clarke left his fans with a healthy advice, "If parents are unsure, ask the expert."
