BOSTON and CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Oct. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Massachusetts Biotechnology
"We have an enormous opportunity to usher in personalized precision health by measuring molecular disease triggers with digital detection biomarker technology, and then pairing these capabilities with environmental factors in ways that enable us to see disease earlier and less invasively," said Kevin Hrusovsky, Founder & Chairman, Powering Precision Health Summit. "We are advancing scientific breakthroughs on a path to prevent and cure some of life's most lethal diseases, including cancer, heart disease and neurodegenerative disease."
"Massachusetts is a global leader in the life sciences and our administration fully supports efforts to advance research and collaboration like the upcoming Powering Precision Health Summit," said Governor Charlie Baker. "We look forward to the ideas and projects the summit's medical experts will develop to continue groundbreaking scientific research partnerships, spur new precision technologies and support Massachusetts' nation-leading innovation economy."
Earlier this year, the Baker-Polito Administration announced a legislative proposal to bolster Massachusetts' leadership in the life sciences sector, providing up to $500 million over five years for strategic investments in public infrastructure, research and development, workforce training and education, including up to $295 million in capital authorization and up to $150 million job-creating tax incentives. Additionally, Governor Charlie Baker and the Massachusetts Life Science Center announced $39 million in capital funding for research centers and life sciences training facilities at colleges, universities, middle schools and high schools across the Commonwealth.
"MassBio is committed to precision health and this summit is pivotal in moving research and development toward finding a cure," said Bob Coughlin, President and CEO of MassBio. "Partnering with an event that supports patient-driven, personalized solutions to today's most difficult to diagnose and treat diseases only reinforces our commitment to the cause."
The second annual Powering Precision Health Summit will feature over 50 medical experts hailing from the nation's top medical institutions, including Harvard, Tufts, Yale, MIT, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston University, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Dana Farber, Cedars-Sinai and Penn State. These speakers represent the leading biomarker researchers and clinicians in the U.S. who are working to collaborate on a cure for cancers, such as breast cancer and pancreatic cancer, for neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's Disease, ALS, CTE, and for metabolic and cardiovascular diseases.
