Mark Gastineau Named Senior Vice President of Individual, Small Group, and Government Business Unit at Blue Shield of California

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 10 Blue Shield of California has announced the promotion of Mark Gastineau to senior vice president and chief executive of Blue Shield of California's Individual, Small Group, and Government Business Unit (ISGBU). Gastineau joined Blue Shield in 2006 as vice president of ISGBU Finance and Underwriting, leading the finance, underwriting and compliance areas in developing strategies to increase membership growth and profitability. In his new role, Gastineau will be responsible for the overall operating results for ISGBU.

"I am very pleased to welcome Mark into this new role," said Blue Shield of California executive vice president and chief operating officer Paul Markovich. "With nearly 20 years experience in health care and an in-depth knowledge of the individual, small group and government markets, Mark will continue to play an important role in ensuring our customers receive high quality health care coverage."

Prior to joining Blue Shield, Gastineau served in various roles at WellPoint, including General Manager of UNICARE Individual and Small Group and Vice President of UNICARE Small Group, Mergers and Acquisition Integration, and Corporate Finance.

Gastineau is a member of The State Bar of California and is a certified public accountant. He graduated from California State University with a B.S. in Business Administration - Accounting, and from Southwestern School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree.
