Since the Maze's inception in 2000, Lyman Orchards has donated $1 from each ticket to the American Cancer Society (ACS), an organization whose goal is to foster cancer research and education, as well as provide support to individuals suffering from the disease. The 2017 Maze raised $27,670, which was donated directly to the Rocky Hill-based Connecticut chapter of the ACS. With the addition of the 2017 donation, Lyman Orchards has now contributed over $566,000 to the ACS.
Lyman Orchards' Executive Vice President John Lyman III stated, "Every year, the annual Corn Maze attracts thousands of visitors who come ready to explore and traverse the farm. By donating a portion of the ticket sales, we and our customers collaboratively support the goals of the American Cancer Society. We are honored to assist the uphill battle that is the cure for cancer and the positive strides being made by organizations such as ACS."
Lynn Kipphut, Community Manager at the Relay for Life at American Cancer Society, added: "The American Cancer Society is thrilled about the community partnership we have with Lyman Orchards. Raising funds to cultivate research and education, while reducing the pain and suffering caused by cancer, is key in executing the American Cancer Society's mission of saving more lives. Lyman Orchards' continued support and generosity have been crucial to our community goals, bringing us steps closer to making an impact in the lives of cancer patients."
Lyman Orchards' 2018 Corn Maze will run from Sept. 1 through Nov. 4 and the theme will be announced in the near future. Theme notwithstanding, the Corn Maze is a fun and unique destination for groups, corporate events and team-building opportunities, as well as for kids of all ages.
The annual Corn Maze is among many engaging activities at Lyman Orchards. In addition to Pick Your Own seasonal fruit -- from strawberries in June to raspberries, blueberries, pears and peaches in mid-summer, to apples and pumpkins in the fall -- Lyman features family-friendly activities throughout the season, including live music, pony and wagon rides, kettle corn and more. For those on the go, the Apple Barrel carries fresh-from-the-farm fruit, as well as freshly baked treats, breakfast and lunch.
