PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa., March 6, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Dr. Lori Griswold has joined the Board of Directors of the Jean Griswold Foundation, a private charity established by Griswold Home Care to further the company's belief that care for the elderly and disabled should be accessible to all.
In 1982, Dr. Jean Griswold founded the world's oldest multinational non-medical home care company, Griswold Home Care, (formerly Special Care/Griswold Special Care). Under Jean's guidance, Lori served as executive vice president of the home care company – now headquartered in Plymouth Meeting, PA – for many years until 2009. She was also executive director of the Jean Griswold Foundation's predecessor, the Special Care Foundation.
A nationally-known policy analyst and gerontologist, Griswold has worked with and advocated for older and disabled persons in a variety of positions and settings. She has a BA in psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a Masters in gerontology from the Andrus Gerontology Center, University of Southern California and a PhD in Social Policy from the Heller School at Brandeis University.

In 2018, the Jean Griswold Foundation gave grants to 38 groups throughout its national footprint with more than 171 locations in 30 states.
Last year, the Foundation also began a new initiative, Griswold Gives, where individual franchise directors award donations to local nonprofits using their own discretion. A percentage of all Griswold Home Care profits are donated to the Jean Griswold Foundation.
Lori's interest in maintaining the dignity of older adults started at a young age as a high school candy striper in a nursing home where her grandmother lived. It was there that she cultivated an interest in reducing the use of physical restraints with frail older adults and ensuring their dignity and respect. That passion has propelled her through a robust career as a policy expert, advocate and gerontologist.
Every dollar donated to the Jean Griswold Foundation is used to further its mission to support programs and services that allow older and disabled adults to age in place. Formerly the Griswold Cares Foundation, the 501(c)(3) non-profit changed its name in 2016 to honor the founder of Griswold Home Care, Dr. Jean Griswold, who passed away in 2017.
