The Science Center will join other sponsoring companies displaying exhibitions at the race and will also provide each of more than 500 expected registered runners with free admission to the Science Center's all-new exhibition floors for themselves and up to two guests, valid on the day of the event.

The chemistry industry in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania - which directly employs more than 160,000 and contribute billions of dollars to the regional economy - have joined forces to plan the race. Registration proceeds from the essential2life 5K will support local chapters of the American Red Cross.

The rain-or-shine event is planned for April 10 at Liberty State Park, Jersey City, N.J., and is open to everyone. It will include a 5K race and a 3K walk for adults, and e2® Kids Sprints (25 to 150 yards) for children ages two to 11. Race day registration opens at 7:45 a.m.; races begin at 9:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to overall male and female winners, as well as to the top three in each five year age group (14 and under to 75 and over). Registration is $18 before April 3, $20 after that date for adults (12 and older), and $5 for children (11 and under).

Along with the races and exhibits, the event will also include live music, a DJ, prizes, and more. Nearby activities include ferry rides to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Downtown New York City is a short train ride or drive away. For information about the events or to register, visit www.essential2life.org.
