During Homeless Awareness Month, Lake Trust Credit Union and partners joined together to provide in-demand items for eight organizations aiding the homeless.

BRIGHTON, Mich., Nov. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Lake Trust Foundation received 2,796 donated personal care packs

of needed toiletries including deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, body wash and a razor for distribution to eight Michigan homeless shelters. Lake Trust Credit Union will also donate 1,250 pairs of Bombas socks and an additional $1,500 to one or more of the organizations to be selected by the internal Lake Trust Credit Union team providing the most care packs.

Thanks to the response from Credit Union team members and the community, the Foundation extended its drive for an additional week. Receiving the personal care packs are the Coalition on Temporary Shelter in Detroit; Shelter Association of Washtenaw County; Isabella County Restoration House in Mt. Pleasant; City Rescue Mission of Lansing; Holland Rescue Mission; Love in Action in Grand Haven; Lewis House Shelter in Hastings; and LACASA serving Livingston County.

The following organizations made in-kind donations or financial contributions: Johnson and Johnson; area Walmart, Costco, Meijer, Target, and Walgreens stores; McLaren Health Care; Delta Dental and community dentists and dental care organizations; Holiday Inn and Residence Inn Marriott Michigan locations; and more.

"Last year, more than 63,000 people throughout Michigan experienced homelessness and more than 10,200 households with children were homeless," said Brandalynn Winchester-Middlebrook, Lake Trust Senior Vice President of Culture and Community Engagement. "Team Lake Trust knows behind everything we do are people. This great response is another demonstration our team consistently takes action for those in need."

With funds raised from donations and community events, the Foundation directs its efforts for a greater social purpose in Michigan.

"Because this is part of our core identity to reach out to the underserved, we're optimistic that the Foundation can extend its reach, even beyond the many locations where Lake Trust operates currently," added Ms. Winchester-Middlebrook.
