MENLO PARK, Calif., Dec. 15 Knowledge Networks is significantly expanding its position in the pharmaceutical and bio-tech research market with the acquisition of CMR (Caduceus Marketing Research). Over the past 11 years CMR has built and grown a panel, the Physicians Consulting Network (PCN®), which now includes 70,000 U.S. physicians, and allied healthcare professionals covering both primary care and hard-to-reach specialties. The Mount-Arlington, NJ-based company offers both full-service market research services to pharmaceutical manufacturers and direct access to its panel to other analyst firms.

In 2008, pharmaceutical market research accounted for 16% of global market research spending and has remained one of the few growing sectors in 2009. Since its inception in 1999 Knowledge Networks has developed a solid presence in this industry through analytically driven research for several of the largest global pharmaceutical manufacturers. CMR's products and capabilities for identifying opportunities, tracking trends, and evaluating messages for specialty Rx products are a complement to KN's segmentation and positioning expertise.

In addition, CMR brings unique measurement techniques in specialty and oncology categories that are not well served by syndicated methods. CMR's PCN® panel, with its broad coverage of the physician universe, will allow KN to conduct more extensive custom research in areas such as the usage of oncology regimen drugs and other specialty products.

"CMR's assets, people, and client focus are extremely compatible with KN's," said Simon Kooyman, CEO of Knowledge Networks. "The ability to understand physician practices and attitudes - especially difficult in specialties like oncology - has become an imperative for pharma marketers. In addition, CMR's focus on quality - from panel representativeness and management to survey design, client service and reporting - mirrors our own. We welcome the CMR team and look forward to bringing our combined capabilities to all of our clients."

Jim Vielee, head of CMR, observed, "Knowledge Networks will bring a host of benefits to our clients, broadening our offerings and giving us a stronger foundation to support CMR's business with both manufacturers and researchers. KN's positioning and exceptional reputation dovetail with our high-quality, in-depth approach, and we know that our capabilities will open new doors for clients."
