BOSTON, Nov. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/-- JSI Research & Training Institute (JSI), in partnership with the World Health Organization Collaborating Center and the National Implementation Research Network at the University of North Carolina, is pleased to announce the Family Planning National Training Center (FPNTC). Through this new cooperative agreement with the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Population Affairs (OPA), the FPNTC will build on existing resources to strengthen the capacity of more than 90 Title X-funded family planning organizations. These grantees lead networks of more than 4,000 sites serving over 4 million medically disenfranchised people seeking family planning services each year.

As the Title X program nears its fifth decade, the U.S. health care system is in an historic, transformative period. Supported by the passage of the Affordable Care Act and a coalescing around the Triple Aim (i.e., better health, better care, and lower costs), federal, state, and local providers are exploring payment reform and service delivery integration initiatives to maximize quality and value, put clients at the center of care, and improve population health.

Through its work as the FPNTC, the JSI-UNC partnership will help OPA modernize and transform its delivery system to address the OPA mission - assisting individuals in determining the number and spacing of their children through the provision of voluntary, confidential, and low-cost education, counseling, and related comprehensive medical services to eligible clients. The FPNTC will support Title X-grantees as they overcome the challenges of providing services of the highest quality while adapting to and thriving during this dynamic period.

The FPNTC will work closely with the National Clinical Training Center, based at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, to build on previous OPA-supported trainings, add value, and strengthen the Title X network as a whole.

"As the new training center, we are thrilled to continue our tradition of supporting Title X for more than 25 years," commented Reesa Webb, JSI's managing director of the project, "and to do so with such strong partners creates a team dedicated to ensuring all people working in Title X-funded agencies deliver high quality family planning services."

To respond to the most recent needs of the Title X agencies and the people they serve, OPA is streamlining its training model with a basis in implementation science. To the project's director at UNC, Herbert Peterson, this is a value-add for the Title X network, "There will be no loss and a lot of gain with UNC supporting JSI in this endeavor, which will enhance the entire system for Title X grantees and the individuals they serve."
