Israeli Humanitarian Team from Sheba Medical Center to Assess Medical Needs in Mozambique in Wake of Deadly Cyclone

RAMAT GAN, Israel, March 25, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Sheba Medical Center, Tel HaShomer, Israel's national hospital, is mobilizing a four-person team of humanitarian medical experts and doctors to Beira, Mozambique where a deadly cyclone has killed nearly 450 people and left a devastating path of destruction. The team will arrive in Mozambique tomorrow at noon to assess the most desperate needs and begin treating patients.

Approximately 90 percent of Beira was destroyed by the cyclone that went on to wreak further devastation in Zimbabwe and Malawi.

Sheba Medical Center's needs assessment team will quickly and meticulously evaluate immediate medical and supply needs with boots on the ground. Leading the team is Prof. Elchanan Bar-On, the Director for Sheba's Israel Center for Disaster Medicine and Humanitarian Response, who travels the world with Sheba's medical emergency response teams providing life-saving treatments, supplies and equipment across the world.
