SULPHUR SPRING, Texas, Oct. 23, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Access today announced that Island Hospital, a Level III trauma care facility in Anacortes, Washington, is using its eSignatures solution to capture patient electronic signatures at the point of registration and in several clinical areas.

Island Hospital had a similar system in place previously, but it was lacking in functionality. For example, patients were unable to see a representation of the forms they were being asked to sign unless these were printed and handed to them. Another limitation was the product's limited compatibility with only a small number of forms, rather than being universally applicable. That all changed when Island Hospital switched to Access.

"Now that we're using Access's electronic signatures solution, patients can see exactly what they're signing right there on the signature pad, which gives them a greater level of confidence," said Bo Gillentine, Patient Access Manager at Island Hospital. "Patients have commented on how much better they like the new signature pads, and we've been able to enable electronic signatures on forms for our Spanish-speaking population for the first time. In addition, we've extended eSignatures to documents like consents in cardiac rehab and physical therapy documentation that our previous system wasn't compatible with."

"Our registration staff loves how fast the forms auto-generate, and they no longer have to remember which ones are required for certain patient and insurance types," added Kay Steiner, HIM & Patient Access Director at Island Hospital. "The Access system has removed the guesswork."

Another reason Island Hospital chose the Access system rather than other systems they evaluated was its seamless integration with their MEDITECH EMR.

"The way that the Access system works hand-in-glove with the latest version of MEDITECH means that everything is in one place and is accessible to authorized staff across the hospital, which wasn't possible with our previous system," said Island Hospital's I.S. Director Tom Blum. "The electronically signed forms are sent directly into MEDITECH so we have a whole new level of automation now. That saves time, paper, and hassle."

One of the reasons for the success of Island Hospital's electronic patient signatures project is the productive partnership between the facility and Access.

"Our consultant, Mark, has been a joy to work with," said JoAnn Fain, clinical analyst at Island Hospital. "Anytime an issue cropped up he was very quick to troubleshoot it and come up with a solution. Access's customer service has been great."
