Foundation, Las Vegas dispensary join forces to assist breast cancer victims. Pink merchandise sales to go toward post-surgery tattoos.

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Shango Las Vegas dispensary will team with Ink Ribbon Foundation breast cancer charity during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. Shango Premium Cannabis has created pink merchandise to raise funds for the Las Vegas nonprofit group that helps women pay for tattoos.

Finding a nonprofit to donate funds has been a challenge for Shango. After being spurned by three national and a few local charities devoted to helping women with breast cancer, Shango turned to Ink Ribbon, which gladly accepted a new partnership.

"Ink Ribbon Foundation is honored to accept donations from cannabis companies," says Ink Ribbon Founder Kim Maddi.

Ink Ribbon Foundation helps cancer survivors heal through scar cover-up tattoos and 3D nipple tattoos.

"I wanted a way to give back to my new community of survivors in a real and tangible way, while also making mastectomy scar cover up tattoos more mainstream and accessible to those who want it," she said. "We are a little on the edgy side, which is why a partnership with the edgier side of natural medicine is a perfect fit."

Ink Ribbon provides cancer survivors in the Las Vegas area either mastectomy scar cover-up tattoos or areola restorative tattoos.

"This experience has helped heal me from the inside out. The emotional scars left behind from cancer can sometimes be overwhelming," Maddi said. "After I received my tattoos, I felt a sense of relief. I could finally look in mirror again with a smile on my face. The devastating effects of cancer do not have to haunt you for the rest of your life.

"When I was first diagnosed, I promised my daughters I would do anything to fight this disease whether through traditional Western treatments or anything else I could find that would heal me to ensure my survival. I would expect anyone who has been diagnosed with any disease to be open to anything as long as it works. There is so much evidence of cannabis products that are helpful in a variety of different ailments. When the fine folks at Shango asked if my foundation would take donations from them, my answer was a resounding YES! Together we will be able to truly help women heal from the outside in."

"This will be a gratifying opportunity for Shango to be able to help out a charity with the foresight to recognize the potential benefits of medical cannabis for both pre- and post-surgery situations." said Brandon Rexroad, Founder/CEO. "We admire their courage and we are thankful to have found Ink Ribbon."

Shango has created a line a pink merchandise to sell, with 50 percent of all proceeds to go to Ink Ribbon. There are men's and women's shirts, socks, hats, hoodies and lighters with pink accents.

"Personally, as a breast cancer survivor, I have done my research with some of the more recognizable pink ribbon organizations and was dismayed with misappropriation of funds that were donated in good faith," Maddi said. "One major organization that touts the tagline "race for the cure" puts only about 4% of its resources toward research for metastatic breast cancer, the only type of breast cancer that is terminal.

"I was diagnosed with breast cancer in the summer of 2012. Of course, the news was devastating. Then come all the pink ribbons. At first, I was on board. It sounded all good and positive and just seemed like the thing to do. I walked in my first 5k, three weeks after my double mastectomy and even raised a little money. As I continued on with my treatments and chemo, the pink started losing its pretty. My scars were hideous, I had no hair and besides my family and friends, no support from any of the pink ribbon companies."

She met a local tattoo artist and formed Ink Ribbon.

"I knew immediately this was something I wanted to do," she added. "Totally out of the norm and unconventional, this is a way for some cancer survivors to regain their confidence and feel beautiful again. It's not cheap however, and even if you want to stick with traditional 3D nipple tattoos, most insurance companies will not cover this. This is why we started the Ink Ribbon Foundation."
