MONTCLAIR, N.J., Aug. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- At PAINWeek 2018, the popular Advanced Practice Provider track will be revised and enhanced with a full day of new courses for nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical nurse specialists, and other frontline clinicians. As the biopsychosocial model in chronic pain management gains in acceptance, there has been a concomitant escalation in research into the effectiveness of multidisciplinary care. This interest is further bolstered by the relatively modest performance of monotherapies as demonstrated in clinical trials. Practicing Multidisciplinary Pain Management in the Community Setting, led by returning faculty member Theresa Mallick-Searle, MSMS, NP-BC, ANP-BC, will explore the challenges of cost, access, provider education, and patient acceptance in the provision of multidisciplinary care. A panel of PAINWeek faculty, including Jennifer Hah, MD, MS; Jeremy Adler, MS, PA-C; Ravi Prasad, PhD; and Kathryn Schopmeyer, PT, DPT, CPE, will review case examples of challenging pain syndromes and discuss options in pain psychology, pharmacology, interventional management, and complementary modalities that can be engaged in treatment.

Commenting on the course, Multidisciplinary Pain Management: Complex Cases, Dr. Hah observed, "Knowledge of vital resources and an understanding of the interdisciplinary framework will instill confidence in providers practicing pain management. In this session, my colleagues and I will strive to demystify and reduce the stress associated with managing patients with challenging pain diagnoses." Other courses in the track, presented on September 6, will include Preventing Burnout: Caring for the Clinician & Promoting Wellness, led by Dr. Prasad, and Case Studies in Aberrant Drug Taking Behaviors, presented by Dr. Adler.

In addition to the advanced practice provider track, PAINWeek 2018 will feature a diverse curriculum in the following course concentrations: acute pain management, behavioral, integrative, and interventional pain management, chronic pain syndromes, medical/legal issues, neurology, pain and chemical dependency, physical therapy, palliative care, and pharmacotherapy. There will also be full-day programs presented by the American Pain Society, the American Society of Pain Educators, the American Headache Society, and the International Pelvic Pain Society.
