Impact Pediatric Health Announces Twelve Finalists For Startup Pitch Competition At SXSW 2019

Fifth-Annual Event on March 8, 2019, Adds Health Disparities and Equity Category and Unveils Up to $100,000 in Awards

AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 27, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The nation's leading pediatric hospitals hosting the annual Impact

Pediatric Health pitch competition today announced the twelve startup company finalists who will compete on March 8. Impact Pediatric Health is a one-of-a-kind pitch competition held annually at SXSW dedicated to showcasing and supporting the best pediatric healthcare innovations.

The tech startups will be competing in the following categories: Digital Health, Medical Devices and Health Disparities and Equity. Winners will be selected across each category and all participants will benefit from the invaluable feedback from a host of industry experts serving as judges at the event, as well as the sponsoring children's hospitals. Any Interactive or Platinum SXSW badge holder may attend the Friday, March 8 event from 11 am – 3 pm in the Startup Village at the Hilton Downtown Austin.

The twelve finalists include the following:

  • Gravitas Medical, San Francisco, CA, developed a 'smart' nasogastric feeding system

  • Vifant, LLC, Philadelphia, PA, vision screening test preverbal and nonverbal children
  • Sound Scouts, Sydney, Australia, provides accessible hearing checks for school-aged children @SoundScoutsGame
  • BabyNoggin, San Francisco, CA, whole child population platform to screen and test for developmental delays @BabyNogginApp
  • KinChip Systems, Perth, Australia, link health, education and social services for better care outcomes @KinChipSystems

Impact Pediatric Health was created by seven leading U.S. Children's Hospitals including Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Boston Children's Hospital, Cincinnati Children's Hospital, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Seattle Children's Hospital, Stanford Children's Health and Texas Children's Hospital.

SXSW is working with these leading pediatric hospitals on the event which is part of Startup Village, at the Hilton Downtown Austin. In its first year, 2015, Mark Cuban emceed and was one of the judges who selected CareAline as the best of 10 finalists.

Additionally, the Southwest National Pediatric Device Consortium (SWPDC) is providing $100,000 in awards to pediatric device innovators to accelerate devices designed to improve the safety and delivery of pediatric care. Awardees in the Device category at the Impact Pediatric Health pitch competition at SXSW are eligible to receive up to $25,000 each to accelerate their development.

Impact Pediatric Health showcases technologies that will deliver solutions specifically created for young patients. The twelve finalist startup CEOs will have three minutes to pitch how their company is solving unique health care needs of children, from babies to teens. The stage presentation on Friday, March 8, 2019 will be followed by questions from the emcees and judges. The winners among the twelve finalists will be announced at the end of the event. All participating companies will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with the presenting pediatric hospitals. You must have a SXSW Interactive or Platinum badge to attend this March 8 event.

This year's event will be hosted by event emcee, Lisa Suennen, Managing Director Manatt Health and will feature judges representing each of the seven host pediatric hospitals as well as Molly McCarthy MBA, RN-BC National Director, US Provider Industry and Chief Nursing Officer Microsoft, Bonnie Clipper VP, Practice and Innovation American Nurses Association, Peggy Maguire President Cambia Health Foundation, Andrew El Bardissi Principal Deerfield Management and Stacy Feld Vice President, Consumer Venture Investments & External Innovation Johnson & Johnson.

Southwest National Pediatric Device Consortium (SWPDC) is a multi-institutional consortium that includes clinical, scientific, business, financial, regulatory, reimbursement, engineering, intellectual property, and academic partners in the Houston / Southwest U.S. region. The consortium received a five-year, $6.75 million FDA P50 Pediatric Device Consortia (PDC) grant to support innovation, mentoring, and collaborations amongst pediatric clinicians and surgeons, engineers, industry, and other partners for pediatric device development.
