"Founded in 1863, Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is the nation's oldest orthopedic hospital," the hospital's website states. "More than 29,000 surgical procedures are performed annually. HSS performs more hip surgeries and more knee replacements than any other hospital in the nation. HSS surgeons who specialize in joint replacement perform, on average, 365 of these operations every year."

"I was inspired to become an orthopedic surgeon as a child," Dr. Rose said. "I made a homemade parachute, jumped and broke my arm. I thought the parachute would work like how it is done on television. After my arm was fixed, I wanted to become an orthopedic surgeon."

Dr. Rose earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard College. He then went on to complete his Medical degree at George Washington University, his internship at Tufts University Medical Center and his fellowship at Harvard University through Brigham and Women's Hospital.

To further his professional development, Dr. Rose is a Member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the Nassau County Medical Society. In recognition of his outstanding accomplishments in the field, he was named to the Castle Connolly Top Doctors New York Metro Area list from 2000-2017, and was awarded the Lewis Clark Wagner award as well as the Nancy Bishoff Teaching Award.

"The key to my success is treating everyone as you would like to be treated," Dr. Rose said. "Follow your passion – there is always work."

Dr. Rose dedicates this recognition to Dr. Arthur Boland, the Team Physician of Harvard University Athletics, whom he cites as "the most amazing guy in the world, and my mentor and guiding light."
