Recognizing the day may be especially difficult for grieving children and families, the Highmark Caring Place, A Center for Grieving Children, Adolescents and Their Families provides help and support to those in need at this time, and year-round.
"Our staff and volunteers provide encouragement and peer support to help children and families discover they are not alone in their grief," said Caring Place Director Terese Vorsheck. "This Father's Day -- and any time of year -- our program provides the opportunity for families to interact with others who have faced a loss and discover hope and healing in the midst of their grief. For those who work with families in the community, we have resources and tools available to be helpful during a very trying time."
Through its Web site, the Caring Place provides a variety of helpful tips to help those who are grieving the death of a loved one.
The Caring Place offers peer support groups and referral services, at no charge, for grieving children and their families through a variety of online resources and at four locations across Pennsylvania. The children and families who attend the peer support program are helped by trained volunteers from the community.
The Caring Place also provides adult telephone support and educational programs and resources for grieving children and families. In addition, consultation services, as well as educational presentations and resources, are available for schools and other professionals in the community who work with children.
A signature partner of Highmark Healthy High 5, an initiative of the Highmark Foundation, the Caring Place is also supported by community contributions.
