Three dispensaries present first annual Lake County CannaEXPO

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill., July 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- PDI Medical in Buffalo Grove, The Clinic in Mundelein, and Elevele in Highland Park are sponsoring the first annual Lake County medical cannabis expo with demonstrations, exhibits, cooking classes, question and answer sessions, and patient and caregiver card sign-ups on Sunday, August 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 175 East Hawthorn Parkway in Vernon Hills, Illinois. Admission is free and includes live music and light refreshments.

"The expo is for current medical cannabis patients, potential patients, healthcare providers, health educators and support associations," said pharmacist Joseph Friedman, owner and chief operations officer of PDI Medical. "It's an opportunity to ask questions and get answers. For example, patients ask if there are alternatives to smoking medical cannabis. There are many other delivery choices, including edibles, vaporizers, tinctures, oils, recipes and ingredients, transdermal patches and the new micro-dosing."

"Many people still think medical cannabis will make them high," said Veronica Hunt of Elevele. "That's not necessarily true. Cannabidiol, CBD, is a chemical in cannabis with many medical applications because of its anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, pain-relieving, and spasm and seizure reduction properties. CBD is usually extracted from the cannabis plant and is not psychoactive. Most of the products we sell do have some THC, the psychoactive ingredient. However, we offer several high-CBD/low-THC strains so patients can find the right balance for themselves."

When people ask about the benefits of medical cannabis, Marlene Schwan, manager and supervisor of patient care services at The Clinic Mundelein, shares information about how medical cannabis reduces seizures caused by epilepsy, relieves nausea from chemotherapy, decreases ocular pressure from glaucoma, and lessens the pain of multiple sclerosis. "Providing the benefits of medical cannabis for the 41 conditions currently recognized by Illinois, bringing relief to patients in need and improving patients' quality of life has been our focus from day one," Schwan said.
