HMS Awarded Contract by Ohio Dept. of Job & Family Services

NEW YORK, Aug. 23 The Ohio Department of Job andFamily Services received approval from the Ohio Controlling Board to award atwo-year contract to the Arkansas Medical Support Services Consortium (MSSC)administered by Health Management Systems, Inc. (HMS). As the vendor to thenation's only medical support consortium, HMS will link commercial insurancecoverage for child support dependents to their non-custodial and custodialparents.

HMS is the designated administrator for the MSSC, a contracting mechanismwhere by child support agencies nationwide can obtain medical support servicesat competitive prices. By utilizing HMS's national database of over 500million records, MSSC participants increase their opportunity to identify andverify health insurance for IV-D dependents.

Federal regulations and state laws require IV-D agencies to obtain,maintain, and enforce medical child support orders. These children maycurrently be enrolled in Public Assistance and Medicaid programs. HMS'sservices identify children who have access to private healthcare coveragethrough a non-custodial or custodial parent or other resource. These types ofmedical support tasks are often time-consuming and can strain state budgetsand resources.
