NEW YORK, Nov. 24 The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (Guardian), one of the largest mutual life insurers and a leading provider of employee benefits for small and mid-sized companies, today announced that the company will continue to follow its current insurance coverage guidelines for mammography screenings. These guidelines are consistent with the American Cancer Society and American Medical Association (AMA) recommendations for mammography screenings.
Recently, The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommended increasing the age for and decreasing the frequency of mammography screenings.
"Guardian is committed to promoting preventative services and overall wellness to help its members lead longer and healthier lives," said Tim Bireley, vice president, Guardian Group Medical. "We believe that mammography continues to be an important tool in diagnosing breast cancer. Guardian respects the relationship between its clients and their physicians and encourages women to meet with their doctors to discuss when they should begin breast cancer screenings."
