CARROLLTON, Ga., Sept. 30 Greenway Medical TechnologiesInc., today announced that its flagship electronic health record (EHR),PrimeSuite 2008, is a fully CCHIT Certified(R) 08 ambulatory EHR, according tocriteria set forth by the Certification Commission for Healthcare InformationTechnology (CCHIT(R)), including certification for cardiovascular medicine andchild health. The Commission is the recognized certification body (RCB) by theUnited States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for certifyinghealth information technology (HIT) products.

In order to be 08 CCHIT Certified, PrimeSuite 2008 met all therequirements including enhancements to CCD-based interoperability ande-Prescribing functionality that improves access to a patient's medicalhistory and a longitudinal electronic patient health record. The Commissionexpanded their criteria from the 2007 certification process to includerequired improvements such as advanced medication dosing features that takeinto account specific patient needs and inherent safeguards within the EHRthat prevent adverse reactions due to drug interactions and/ or allergies.

Each year, EHR companies such as Greenway(R) have the opportunity tovoluntarily test their products against a rigorous set of criteria in order toreceive the current version of CCHIT Certification. By choosing PrimeSuite(R),a physician can expect to utilize a solution that has met such criteria, including functionality, interoperability and security.

"More and more, physicians are seeking CCHIT Certified EHRs," said JustinBarnes, vice president of marketing and government affairs at GreenwayMedical. "We have invested tens of millions of dollars into PrimeSuite to makeit the most usable at the point-of-care and comprehensive EHR on the market. We possess one of the only fully integrated, single-database EHR, practicemanagement and interoperability solutions based on the Microsoft .NETframework available and intend to continue to meet and exceed the requirementsnecessary to remain the leading provider of ambulatory HIT technology."

"Two key new areas of interoperability are required to achieve 08certification," said Mark Leavitt, M.D., Ph.D., chair, CCHIT. "First, ambulatory EHRs must be capable of advanced electronic prescribing functionsso physicians can qualify for bonuses under Medicare's new incentive program.Second, EHRs must be able to send and receive an electronic patient summary. These and other new criteria will ensure that certified health IT productshelp improve quality, safety and efficiency while protecting the privacy ofhealth information."
