Global Hospitals, Mumbai, a multi super specialty tertiary care hospital conducted a walkathon on the 29th of October 2018 on the occasion of World Stroke Day. This initiative was adorned by the presence of over 150 participants who walked with placards showcasing the FAST symptoms of stroke which represents Face, Arm, Speech and Timely help.
Stroke is a medical condition that occurs when a portion of the brain does not get enough oxygen due to which the brain tissue starts dying. It is an extremely dangerous condition that can also cause permanent damage to the patient. Hence, the mission of the walkathon was to inform the general public that a stroke is treatable and the patient needs to be taken to the nearest hospital within 4.5 hours.
Through the walkathon the participants were informed about the Dos and Donts of a Stroke by renowned neurosurgeons Dr. Nitin Dange and Dr. Pankaj Aggarwal, who are associated with Global Hospitals, Mumbai and are a part of their Stroke team.
Dr Nitin Dange, Consultant Neurosurgeon,
from Global Hospitals, commented, The number of casualties caused by a stroke has been rising over the years. Numerous factors ranging from a sedentary lifestyle to high stress levels are responsible for this rise. There is a lack of awareness around the disease as well. With the walkathon we aim to create awareness around strokes and stress on the fact that a stroke is treatable and preventable.
