The value of the "Healthy Heart Exam" is more than $200. Refreshments and healthy snacks will be served and all those who attend will be eligible for raffle prizes, including gift certificates to local retailers. The Fitness and Lifestyle Center also will offer new memberships for $20 a month, a 20% discount.

"This complimentary exam is our gift of health to residents," says Dr. Robert Iaffaldano, MetroSouth interventional cardiologist. "If we do diagnose patients with heart problems, we can refer them to one of MetroSouth's excellent cardiologists and primary care physicians." A MetroSouth cardiologist will also be on-hand on New Year's Day to answer questions regarding more significant findings.

In addition to the free screening, MetroSouth is offering a discounted $30 "Healthy Heart Exam" during the months of January and February. The "Healthy Heart Exam" also makes a great holiday gift for loved ones that might be at risk for heart disease. Friends or family members with diabetes, high blood pressure, a family history of heart disease, who smoke or are overweight, or who frequently experience shortness of breath would especially benefit from this gift of life. Women, who often experience atypical symptoms or no symptoms at all, should consider the heart exam if they fall into one of the at-risk categories.

To schedule a complimentary appointment for a "Healthy Heart Exam" on January 1, please call 708-597-2000, ext. 5615 or visit www.metrosouthmedicalcenter.com. Reservations are being taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
