Take an in depth look at the unsung strength and fortitude of the career women of the fire service.

CHICAGO, March 6, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On March 6, 2019, Fire Department Coffee and

LION launched "Real Women in the Fire Service"--a short film that depicts the life of the female firefighter as she upholds the high level of expectations required in such a demanding career.

The video was created in honor of International Women's Day on March 8 and the work iWomen (International Association of Women in Fire & Emergency Services) does to further the success and positive image of women in the fire and emergency services sector.

"Women wake up as firefighters, train as firefighters, and sleep as firefighters. They deserve to be shown in the same light as their male counterparts," said Angie Hughes, President of iWomen. "We are honored Fire Department Coffee and LION are working to encourage more young women to explore emergency services as a career path."

Women have been involved in the firefighting industry for over 200 years, with each year showing an increase in career firefighters. In the U.S., it's estimated 6,200 women work as full-time firefighters and officers with an additional 35-40,000 women in the volunteer fire service.

"Many people have this incorrect picture of women firefighters as pen pushers," said Sarah Franklin, a firefighter for the Broward Sheriff's Office and one of the featured women. "I'm proud to be a part of a movement to change this outdated perspective."

The film was created by Fire Department Coffee, a firefighter-run roasting company known for their philanthropy and freshly roasted blends, in partnership with LION, the largest family-owned manufacturer of first responder personal protective equipment (PPE) in the United states, with a mission to inspire the next generation of firefighters.
