LOS ANGELES, July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Lupus LA, which serves the needs of people with systemic lupus and their families in Los Angeles County, today announced the appointment of Shante Broadus to its board of directors. As a board member Shante will help lead efforts on behalf of the organization, which include: promoting lupus research, awareness, education, patient services, and new member outreach. The announcement comes on the heels of People Magazine's feature story in which Shante and her husband, famed musician Snoop Dogg, explain their personal connection to lupus and subsequent involvement with the Lupus LA organization.

"Lupus LA is thrilled to welcome Shante Broadus to our board. The commitment the Broadus family has made to the fight against lupus is critically important to the success of our organization and we know that they will have a huge impact on lupus awareness worldwide," says Lupus LA Chairman Adam Selkowitz.

Shante Broadus, wife of famed musician and entertainer Snoop Dogg, became devoted to the organization after their young daughter Cori was diagnosed with lupus. After discovering the disease is more prevalent among women of color, Shante realized the organization needed a voice and her family's celebrity status could help inform people of the disease that affects over 1.5 million Americans.

Since then, Shante and her family have been very involved in Lupus LA events and support groups, and in speaking with press outlets to help build awareness about lupus.

In sharing their personal lupus connection with People Magazine, Shante and her family opened up about their struggles with lupus and how Lupus LA helped them cope and live with the disease. Shante hopes the article will reach people that have been affected by lupus and educate those that have little knowledge of the disease.

"The support from the Broadus family brought national attention to a disease that usually goes under the radar. We are happy that Shante and her family are very devoted to the organization and willing to help inform people about lupus," says Lupus LA Executive Director Linda David.

In addition to her involvement with Lupus LA, Shante is a wife, mother all the while maintaining her position as CEO of Boss Lady Entertainment, managing upcoming recording artists, planning events, overseeing her fashion line, and running her community dance studio.
